This is another independently developed product which can replace imported products of Taiyuan Iron and Steel Group after "Pen Point Steel" in 2017. According to Wang Tianxiang, secretary and manager of the Party Committee of Taiyuan Iron and Steel Precision Strip Co., Ltd., the 0.02 mm "hand tearing steel" developed by Taiyuan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. is the thinnest stainless steel in China. Before that, the product was monopolized by Japan, Germany and other countries for a long time because of the difficulty of process control.            Liao Xi, inspection director of Taiyuan Iron and Steel Precision Strip Company, told reporters that the size range of stainless steel precision strip is generally between 0.05 and 0.5 mm, and below 0.05 mm is called stainless steel foil. At present, the market is mostly 0.05 mm of soft stainless steel. The 0.02 mm stainless steel is a frontier product higher than the industry standard. This ultra-thin stainless steel is mainly used in aerospace, petrochemical, automobile, electronics, household appliances, computers and other fields.

In 2017, the research and development of pen-point steel by Taiyuan Iron and Steel Co. aroused heated public opinion, and the "Made in China" social network at home and abroad attracted attention. The appearance of the thinnest stainless steel not only breaks the long-term foreign monopoly, but also raises the production technology of stainless steel foil to the world leading level.
